National Poultry Improvement Plan
The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) originated in the early 1930s as a program to eradicate Salmonella pullorum from the commercial poultry industry. As a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), NPIP now covers the commercial and small flock producers for diseases such as Avian Influenza, Avian Mycoplasmas, Pullorum and more.
VDACS staff members in the Office of Veterinary Services assist producers in enrolling poultry flocks in NPIP and maintaining their status through testing. Producers can use their NPIP membership to reassure their flock’s health status, use it as a marketing strategy, reduce testing frequency and more.Information & Resources
