Animal Welfare Program
Providing advisory assistance to localities in the operation and design of animal pounds and shelter facilities is a key component of the Division's Animal Welfare Program. Upon request, or complaint, staff members are available to review local facilities for compliance with applicable state laws and regulations concerning operations and advise localities of any corrective action needed.
In conjunction with local animal control officials, veterinarians and agricultural inspectors investigate reports of alleged animal cruelty and provide animal owners with advice on the proper care and handling of their animals.
