How to Transfer USDA Foods
Transfers of USDA-donated foods must be approved in advance by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) Food Distribution Office to ensure only qualified organizations receive this assistance. In most cases, the organization that wants the food must transport it to its location or agree to pay for distributor delivery. Contact your Regional Commodity Manager about USDA foods you have in excess to your needs or that you want to transfer. Click here to find the Regional Commodity Manager for your location.
Information to Note:
- Only full cases or equivalent loose cans will be offered for transfer.
No transfer is final until a completed and signed transfer order is received
at the VDACS Food Distribution Office, Richmond, VA.
- All USDA-donated foods
are a form of federal assistance. The value of these foods, whether transferred
or allocated directly, will be reported by recipient agency each fiscal
year.
- If you have USDA foods that are in excess of your needs, please do not let them go to waste. Only approved organizations can legally receive USDA foods. Contact your Regional Commodity Manager to arrange a transfer.
Follow these guidelines.
