MARKETING SERVICES
Federal/State Inspection Service
The Federal/State Inspection Service is a cooperative arrangement of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the State of Virginia's Division of Marketing.
Through this arrangement, Department employees are trained and licensed to inspect fruit, vegetable and peanuts in order to certify that they meet U.S. and Virginia grade standards.
The Federal/State Program is conducted under a dual system of supervision. This is a voluntary service. Farmers are free to sell and ship uninspected produce, but if the containers are marked to grade, the product must meet the grade requirements. Inspections are provided on a fee-for-service basis.
