Fruit and Vegetable Inspection
The Fruit and Vegetable Inspection program serves a diverse group of clientele with various inspection needs. Inspection and certification of produce as to quality and condition are available throughout the state with program concentrations on the Eastern Shore and in the Shenandoah Valley.
Inspections are provided either on a spot basis or under contract to meet client needs. Certification is available at shipping point as produce is packed for the fresh market to meet USDA or state grades. Compliance with marketing orders and export requirements can also be determined.
Quality control services are available to monitor orchard bruising and packing line grading consistency. Processors use inspection upon delivery of produce to their plants to determine adherence to contract specifications.
Destination inspections are routinely available in the Richmond, Roanoke and Norfolk (operated by USDA) terminal markets and other areas of the state on a spot basis.
