Grain Marketing at the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) provides official inspection and weighing services for both domestic and export markets. Grain quality is certified according to the U.S. Grain Standards Act. Quality standards have been established for the following grains: barley, canola, corn, flaxseed, mixed grain, oats, rye, sorghum, soybeans, sunflower seed, triticale and wheat.
Grain Marketing also enforces Virginia's grain laws for grain handlers and dealers, assuring that the grading, weighing and records kept by industry are accurate and that Virginia grain producers receive prompt and accurate payment. To teach producers and industry proper grading procedures, Grain Marketing also holds informative grain grading workshops.
