ABOUT VDACS

Employment Opportunities
General Information and Conditions of Employment

Current position vacancies are posted on-line daily and are recorded on the automated Job line weekly. The automated Job line may be accessed at 804.786.0401.

Background/Reference Checking
It is the practice of VDACS to conduct reference checks on all candidates identified as a finalist for employment consideration. Applicants interviewed will be requested to sign a reference release form so past schools and/or employers may be contacted concerning your academic or employment history. In addition some positions require a fingerprint-based criminal history background check. Please review the job advertisement for this requirement.

Child Support Disclosure
All positions must comply with state regulations verifying income withholding orders for child support.

Economic Interest Statements
Completed upon hire for designated positions meeting the conditions established by Sections 2.2-3114 and 2.2-3115 of the Code of Virginia. Please review the job advertisement for this requirement.

Interview Travel Expenses
Travel expenses to and from the interview are the responsibility of the applicant.

Probationary Period
All newly hired classified employees must serve a 12 month probationary period. This allows both you and your supervisor to determine your suitability for the job. Except for allegations of unlawful discrimination, you will not be provided an appeal if you are released during your probationary period.

Wage Employment Policy
All temporary/wage employees are limited to working a maximum of 1,500 hours in a 365 day period. The 365 day period begins from the date the employee starts work. Temporary and wage employees are "at-will" and do not serve a probationary period. "At-will" means that employment can be terminated with or without cause by the employee or the employer. Wage employees do not receive healthcare, retirement or leave benefits and are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act. However, wage employees are eligible to participate in the tax deferred savings plans. All hours worked including overtime hours and the holding of more than one wage job count towards the 1,500 hour maximum.

90 Day Recruitment Option
VDACS may consider applications for similar jobs for 90 calendar days from the closing date of the vacancy advertised/recruited for previously (same role, duties, work title and location).
