The Mission of the Virginia Agriculture Leaders Obtaining Results (VALOR) program at Virginia Tech is to develop leaders who can effectively engage all segments of the Virginia agricultural community to create collaborative solutions and promote agriculture inside and outside of the industry.
"Programs similar to VALOR have had great success in other states in developing leaders in the industry of agriculture," said Matthew J. Lohr, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. "I am excited about the launch of this program in Virginia and encourage all interested people to learn more and apply."
Fellows in the VALOR program will be exposed to social, political and economic issues facing our industry at the local, state, national and international level. Truly integrated experiences during and after participation will impact future success of participants as advocates and leaders.
Desired participants include individuals with a vested interest in the success of Virginia agriculture and aspirations for increased leadership roles. Based on the pool of applicants, reasonable representation and diversity will be sought from the standpoint of geographic location, range in age and agricultural sector. Up to 30 men and women will be invited to participate in each class.
