CANINE CARE WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED FOR LYNCHBURG AND WYTHEVILLE

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) invites commercial dog breeders and Animal Control Officers (ACOs) to a free workshop on canine care. The course will be offered twice, February 21 in Wytheville and February 22 in Lynchburg. The Wytheville meeting takes place at the Wytheville Meeting Center, 333 Community Blvd, Wytheville, VA, 24382 and the Lynchburg event will be held at the Kirkley Hotel, 2900 Candler’s Mountain Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502. Workshops run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and participants should pre-register to ensure a space.
The workshop, which is sponsored by VDACS and the USDA, is designed to assist and educate pet breeders in expanding their knowledge of raising, breeding and maintaining top quality pets. Topics covered will include an animal care update from the USDA, an update on Virginia’s commercial dog breeder laws, parasite control for kennels, canine genetics and responsible breeding, grooming, canine nutrition, innovative kennel design and a question and answer forum.
Participating ACOs will qualify for seven hours of In-Service Training credit hours upon completion of the course.

Directions to the Kirkley Hotel: From the Lynchburg Expressway (Hwy 501/29), take exit 8 A or B to Candler’s Mountain Rd and head west to hotel, 0.2 mile. From the Richmond Hwy (Hwy 501/460), take Candler’s Mountain Rd west, 1 mile.
