2007 PRESS RELEASES

March 12, 2007
EHV-1 UPDATE FOR MARCH 12, 2007 – NO CHANGES OVER THE WEEKEND
Contact: Elaine Lidholm, 804.786.7686

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) reports that nothing changed in the status of Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1) in Virginia over the weekend. Currently 66 of the original 154 horses remain under quarantine. Quarantines remain on five premises in two counties: Loudoun and Culpeper.

State Veterinarian Dr. Richard Wilkes has not cancelled public sales, auctions or events, although he advises a common sense approach and good biosecurity practices. See the box called General Information at www.vdacs.virginia.gov/animals/ehv.shtml. VDACS is continuing to test horses, and farms where animals test negative will be released from quarantine.
