Virginia Receives $378,240 in Grants for
Agricultural Producers and Small Rural Businesses

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) today announced grants for nearly 25 agricultural producers and rural small businesses in the state to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency measures in their operations. The grants are federal dollars designated by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The Virginia recipients are:

Tazewell, LLC, Tazewell - $20,000, Solar
Turner Family Farms, LLC, Petersburg - $20,000, Energy Efficiency
Big Stone Gap, LLC, Big Stone Gap - $20,000, Solar
CWC Woodlands, LLC, Clifton Forge - $20,000, Solar
AHC Wise, LLC, Wise - $20,000, Solar

In addition, four enterprises received grants of less than $20,000 each: Springhill Farm and Livestock, Inc., Alton, $3,332 - Energy Efficiency; Paris Inn Restaurant, Inc., Burkeville, $15,634 - Energy Efficiency; Unus B. Mohammed, Jetersville, $5,459 - Energy Efficiency; and J. F. Leaf, Ltd., Chase City, $11,561 - Energy Efficiency.
"Investments in renewable energy could enable our farmers and rural
small business owners to develop systems and make improvements that will save
them thousands of dollars in energy costs each year," said VDACS Commissioner
Matt Lohr. He noted that the grants are provided through the Rural Energy
for America Program (REAP). In all, USDA announced more than $11.6 million
in energy grants nationwide.
