VIRGINIA CHRISTMAS TREE ON ITS WAY SOON TO WASHINGTON, DC
Contact: Elaine J. Lidholm, 804.786.7686
On November 6, 2013, Matt Lohr, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and Jackie Davis, President of the Mt. Rogers Christmas Tree Growers Association, joined Rodney Richardson at his farm in Grayson County to help select a tree that will grace the halls of the residence of Joe Biden, U.S. Vice President, this Christmas. The residence is on the grounds of the United States Naval Observatory in NW Washington, DC.
Richardson earned the right to provide that tree when he won the Reserve Grand Champion Christmas Tree award from the National Christmas Tree Growers Association. To enter NCTA’s national contest, growers must first win their state/regional competition. Richardson was chosen Grand Champion by the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association at their annual convention in August 2012.
National Grand Champion winner John Wyckoff of Belvidere, NJ will present a tree to President Obama and family for the White House.
