Boxwood Blight Cleanliness Program
Compliance Agreement for Production Nurseries
The Boxwood Blight Cleanliness Program Compliance Agreement for Production Nurseries utilizes a systems approach to prevent the spread of boxwood blight via nursery stock. The compliance agreement template was developed by the National Plant Board in cooperation with the nursery industry and this program is being implemented in Virginia by VDACS. The Boxwood Blight Cleanliness Program is a voluntary program and participating nurseries agree to use best management practices to reduce the risk of introducing and spreading boxwood blight, which is caused by the fungus Calonectria pseudonaviculata (also known as Cylindrocladium pseudonaviculatum and Cylindrocladium buxicola). The program is coupled with inspections and audits by VDACS to ensure the program requirements are followed.
A copy of the agreement template may be found here.
The list of Virginia nurseries participating in the Boxwood Blight Cleanliness Program can be found here.
Educational Resources for Growers:
The Boxwood Blight Cleanliness Program requires continuing education/training on this disease for staff at participating nurseries. Below are some online resources for growers on the management and biology of this pathogen to help meet this requirement. It is suggested that nursery staff and management review these links regularly for updates and new information.
