Welcome to the Virginia Farm Link program, which was established in 2001 by the General Assembly to provide assistance in the transition of farm businesses and properties from retiring farmers to active farmers.

At this time, the primary component of the Virginia Farm Link program is an online database designed to link farm owners interested in exiting agriculture with those seeking farms and farm businesses.

Also, please visit the new Farm Transition Resources Web page for farm transition information and resources from across the country.  Please click the button at the top right to view the Farm Transition Resources information.

The Virginia Farm Link program is administered by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ (VDACS) Office of Farmland Preservation. For more information about the Virginia Farm Link program and the Office of Farmland Preservation, click here.

Farm Owners Information

Please read the following information carefully before entering the Farm Link database:
Once you submit your Farm Owner application, the information that you provide (except for your name, address, phone number and e-mail information) will be available for review by those Farm Seekers who have completed their own application. Farm Seekers will have the ability to automatically send you an electronic notification of their interest in further discussing your farm/farming operation with you. These electronic notifications will be compiled and sent to you in a batch format daily. Once you receive an e-mail from an interested Farm Seeker(s), it is up to you to decide how to best proceed. At this time, the Virginia Farm Link program is unable to offer any additional assistance in terms of mediation discussions between potential Farm Owners and Farm Seekers. Your Farm Owner application will remain active for a period of six months. At that time, an e-mail will be send to you asking if you would like to continue to remain active in the Virginia Farm Link database. Your account will automatically be de-activated unless you click the link to keep your account active for an additional six months.

Farm Seekers Information

Please read the following information carefully before entering the Farm Link database:
Once you submit your Farm Seeker application, you will have the ability to automatically send your application to any Farm Owner whose farm is currently listed in the Farm Link database. To do so, please click on the box next to the Farm Owner’s information. You also have the ability to add any additional information to the Farm Owner(s) selected. Please note: If you click on more than one Farm Owner at a time, you will only be able to add one message for all of the Farm Owners selected. You may want to consider only selecting one Farm Owner at a time if you would like to create a different message for each Farm Owner. Farm Owners will receive Farm Seeker information once daily. Once the Farm Owner receives an e-mail from an interested Farm Seeker(s), it is up to the Farm Owner to decide how to best proceed, and whether or not to make contact with the Farm Seeker(s). At this time, the Virginia Farm Link program is unable to offer any additional assistance in terms of mediation discussions between potential Farm Owners and Farm Seekers. Your Farm Seeker application will remain active for a period of six months. At that time, an e-mail will be send to you asking if you would like to continue to remain active in the Virginia Farm Link database. Your account will automatically be de-activated unless you click the link to keep your account active for an additional six months.
