Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services to Meet July 23 in Gloucester

The Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services will meet on Tuesday, July 23, in Gloucester Va. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at Brent and Becky's Bulbs, The Chesapeake Lounge, 7900 Daffodil Lane, Gloucester, VA 23061.  

Tentative agenda:

  • Approval of the minutes of the March 21, 2019 meeting
  • Welcome – Phillip Bazzani, Vice Chair, Gloucester County Board of Supervisors
  • Board member reports
  • Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) report, Commissioner Jewel Bronaugh

At 2 p.m., the Board will exit its regular meeting to go into a public hearing on three proposed regulations:

  • 2 p.m. - Public Hearing – Proposed Regulations for 2 VAC 5-317 (Regulations for Enforcement of the Noxious Weeds Law) – David Gianino, Program Manager, VDACS’ Office of Plant Industry Services
  • 2:15 p.m. - Public Hearing – Proposed Regulations for 2 VAC 5-320 (Regulations for the Enforcement of the Endangered Plant and Insect Species Act) – David Gianino
  • 2:30 p.m. - Public Hearing – Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine – David Gianino

At the conclusion of the public hearings, the Board will resume its regularly scheduled meeting:

  • Exempt Final Action to Promulgate 2 VAC 5-331 (Rules for Enforcement of the Virginia Tree and Crop Pests Law – Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine) – David Gianino, Program Manager, Office of Plant Industry Services
  •  Proposed Fast-Track Action to Amend 2 VAC 5-585 (Retail Food Establishment Regulations) – Ryan Davis, Program Manager, Office of Dairy and Foods
  • Update on African Swine Fever – Dr. Charles Broaddus, State Veterinarian
  • Update on 2017 Census of Agriculture – Herman Ellison, State Statistician, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service
