Directions: From I-64, exit 99, turn right off of exit on Route 250 east. Go 3 miles (approximately) and turn right on 151 south towards Wintergreen Ski Resort. Go 10 miles, turn left on Virginia Lane (there will be a winery sign). Cross bridge over the Rockfish River. Farm will be at the top of the hill on the left.
Hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday–Saturday; 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Hours extended in July and August for blackberry season.
Special Comments: Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery is a sister-owned winery specializing in “True to the Fruit” Virginia wines, historical honey meads and seasonal pick-your-own blackberries. Description: Founded in 1997, the Nelson Farmers’ Market is considered one of the premier producers-only markets in the region. Set in the heart of the Rockfish Valley, the market operates on a grassy field under long white tents. Local farmers bring their seasonal produce, berries, peaches, apples, cut flowers, free range eggs, grass-fed beef, pork, lamb and poultry. You can also find cheese, mushrooms, honey and fresh-cut herbs. Plants for sale include trees, shrubs, heritage tomatoes, perennials, herbs, bedding plants, chrysanthemums and orchids. Bakers bring a wide variety of loaf breads, fruit pies, cakes, and meat-filled pastries. Crafters offer original jewelry, pottery, baskets, fabric crafts, furniture, photography and art. There is plenty of parking.
Directions: From Charlottesville, take 250 West to the bottom of Afton Mountain. Turn left on Rt. 151 toward Wintergreen. Go approximately 10 miles to Nellsyford. Market is on the right at the entrance to Stoney Creek. From Lynchburg, take 29 North; go left on Route 6, then left on Rt. 151, go 4 miles to the market.
Hours: 8 a.m.-12 noon, Saturdays, mid-April-November.
