In accordance with Governor Ralph Northam amended Executive Order 67 issued on November 13, farmers' markets may continue to operate by adhering to the specifics in the Phase 3 Forward Virginia guide.
For normal business operations, such as those involving the retail sale of food, the sale of safety essentials, etc; the amended Order does not place a specific limit on the number of patrons in attendance. The Order does provide that employees and patrons must maintain at least six feet of physical distancing between individuals who are not family members, at all times. Markets are further required to configure operations to avoid congestion or congregation points.
Farmers' markets that include special events or activities (i.e. such as bands/music, face painting, or festival-related activities, etc.) may potentially be considered a social gathering and should not have more than 25 people in attendance at those specific events, as the amended Order prohibits public and private social gatherings larger than 25 people.
