For fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety. The Produce Safety Alliance’s Grower Training is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement.

Veteran Farming Conference

It will cover topics including how to start a new business, marketing, budgeting, value-added products, financing, liability, agritourism and more. Distinguished speakers include Dr. Basil Gooden, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Commissioner John Newby, Department of Veteran Services, and Matthew Underwood, USDA Military Veteran Agricultural Liaison Support, along with representatives from Farmer Veteran Coalition, Virginia Beginning Farmer and Rancher Coalition, Agribility, and many others. The conference will also include resource panels, exhibitor booths, time for networking, and tours of two veteran-owned Halifax County farms.

The trade event takes place once every two years to promote Virginia products and advance economic development.
Retailers, wholesalers, distributors, food service representatives and those in search of private-label brands will find hundreds of Virginia-produced and processed products that are properly packaged and labeled for the retail setting. Attendees meet one-on-one with producers, select new items and place orders right on the show floor. There is no cost to attend.
