Applications for the Beehive Distribution Program (Program) are currently not being accepted. Applications submitted during the application period are being reviewed for random selection of individuals to receive beehive units. Applicants will be notified regarding application status when the selection process is completed.

Program Overview

Eligible applicants will receive free equipment to build up to three (3) new beehives. The equipment must be:

• Assembled and occupied by honey bees within one year
• Used for personal or small-scale beekeeping in Virginia

Honey bees and additional tools (e.g., safety gear, honey extractors) are not included. Recipients are responsible for obtaining bees and managing their own hives.

How Are Applicants Selected

Recipients will be selected at random from qualifying applications. Beehives are not awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Household Limitations

• A maximum of 3 beehive units per household per year
• Multiple individuals from the same household may apply with the following limitation:
  • A maximum of 3 beehive units per household is applicable
• Individuals cannot receive beehives in consecutive years if there are still applicants from the prior year who were not selected
