Applications for the Beehive Distribution Program (Program) are currently not being accepted. Only applications submitted (i) online or (ii) postmarked during the application period will be accepted. Any applications submitted online or postmarked before August 25 or after September 9, 2026, will not be accepted.

Applications that were submitted in previous years will not carry over to the current Program. In addition, applications from previous years should not be resubmitted as the application may have changed and resubmitted applications may be incomplete.

Program Overview

Eligible applicants will receive free equipment to build up to three (3) new beehives. This equipment will come packaged, shipped to your address, but will require additional assembly. Recipients of the equipment are required to ensure the beehive units are assembled and occupied by honey bees within one year.

Honey bees and additional tools (e.g., safety gear, honey extractors) are not included. Recipients are responsible for obtaining bees and managing their own hives.

How Are Applicants Selected

Recipients will be selected at random from qualifying applications. Beehives are not awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Only individuals are eligible to receive beehive units.
• Businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, etc. are not eligible to receive beehive units through the Program.
• Only residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who are 18 years of age or older at the time the application is submitted are eligible to receive beehive units.

Household Limitations

• A maximum of 3 beehive units per household per year
• Multiple individuals from the same household may apply with the following limitation:
  • A maximum of 3 beehive units per household is applicable
• Individuals cannot receive beehives in consecutive years
