Important Notification
Charitable solicitation registrants who filed their annual registration application (Form 102) or a
registration extension request by mail may have received an email notification that its registration had
expired. If the organization postmarked its application and paid the applicable fee or postmarked its
extension request on or before the deadline, then it may disregard the email notification. All mail-in
applications or extension requests postmarked on or before the deadline will not be
considered late and
the applications will not be charged a late fee. Furthermore, in accordance with §
57-61.1 (A) of the
Code of Virginia, “Registrations by charitable organizations, professional solicitors, and professional
fund-raising counsel are effective, if complete, upon receipt by the Commissioner. Incomplete
registration forms and registration forms lacking required accompanying documents are not effective
until completed or until the required accompanying documents are received by the Commissioner.”
All charitable organizations that intend to solicit contributions within the Commonwealth of Virginia or
have funds solicited on its behalf, unless exempt under the
Virginia Solicitation of Contributions Law
(VSOC), are required to file an initial registration statement prior to any solicitation.
Registration is filed with the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs (OCRP), which is responsible
for the administration of the VSOC. Registration with OCRP does not imply endorsement of a public
solicitation for contributions.
Transparency is important for donors and organizations. Find a
